Walford Rowing Launch
It is my great pleasure to be with you for the launch of the 2021 Rowing Season and the naming of your new boats.
As a proud Walford old scholar, being here brings back many memories, all the more so after having lived interstate and abroad for many years.
Rowing taught me many valuable life skills such as persistence, strength, determination, and strategic thinking.
Most of all it taught me the power of teamwork, how to collaborate and build relationships.
I was lucky to have a wonderful crew who became lifelong friends.
As a young person rowing gave me so much, and I’m pleased to see how popular the sport has become in secondary schools across Adelaide.
It is my honour to christen the three new boats here today, the Richter, the Catinan, and especially the Frances Adamson.
To the crews who train and race in the Frances Adamson boat, please know I am with you in spirit: during the tough times, when you feel you have nothing left to give, and in the joyful ones, when you reach a new goal or win a race.
Behind every great crew is a dedicated support team of coaches and parents, and I thank you all for supporting the girls as they become the best rowers they can be.
I wish the crews every success for the new season, especially the 100 Year Regatta in 2022.
Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC
GOVERNOR OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA
