Morning Tea for University Lecturers from Taiwan and Japan
Staff and students – albeit special students, many of you professors - of the University of Adelaide’s English Language Centre.
I warmly welcome you all to Government House.
I hope the Adelaide winter weather is not too chilly for you!
In the early 2000s I lived in Taipei, serving as Australia’s representative to Taiwan, and have many fond memories of its culture and way of life.
I was pleased to play a role strengthening the relationship between us.
I have also been a regular visitor to Japan, firstly as a diplomat and now as Governor.
No doubt you are enjoying your time in Adelaide, as you now embark on your second, and final, week of study with us.
As a graduate of the University of Adelaide, our city’s oldest university, I can speak to its excellent reputation and instruction.
Similarly, the English Language Centre is highly regarded for its work providing custom-designed programs for its institutional partners and has some of the highest quality English language programs in Australia.
I trust you will return home with your capacity to teach in English enhanced.
You will also have access to the centre’s excellent online Resource Hub for ongoing support.
Outside of your studies I hope you have an opportunity to explore Adelaide, and its excellent dining, shopping and cultural opportunities, including the Illuminate Festival which ended yesterday.
I wish you all a memorable time in Adelaide and I hope you will choose to return for further study or a holiday with your family or friends.
