Cystic Fibrosis SA Remembrance Ceremony

Rod and I warmly welcome you all to the Government House grounds.

It is an honour for us both to do so, continuing the tradition of this annual event, which was first held in these grounds five years ago.

Friends,

Today we have gathered to remember the people cystic fibrosis has taken from us, too soon.

They could be a family member, a friend, a colleague or a patient.

For some of you, your loss may be recent, and for others, it may be longer ago.

No matter how much time has passed, these people live on in your hearts and minds.

Today we celebrate how they lived their lives with courage, strength and resilience.

And we honour the joy they brought to the world in the time they were here.

While there is still no cure for CF, the inclusion of Trikafta on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme earlier this year, provides close to 2,000 Australians with access to this next-generation drug.

This provides hope for people living with CF for a better quality of life, and potentially longer life span.

I would like to thank Cystic Fibrosis SA for organising today’s ceremony, and for the vital role it plays in our community.

I acknowledge the Board, staff and volunteers who work with great love and dedication to support South Australians with CF, as well as their families.

I trust that today’s ceremony in these beautiful grounds – grounds Rod and I are keen to share with all South Australians - will bring comfort and peace, while we look to the future with hope for even better treatments and, one day, a cure.
