2024 Australian Institute of Building Awards SA Chapter

As patron of the Australian Institute of Building SA Chapter, I’m pleased to join you for the presentation of the 2024 awards.

I congratulate all award nominees here this evening.

Your nominations are well deserved, reflecting personal excellence as well as the talent we enjoy in the South Australian building industry.

As construction professionals, many of the buildings you work on will stand for generations.

They will be the spaces where people will live, learn, create, innovate, be inspired and inspire, eat, exercise, be entertained, receive healthcare. Just imagine.

It’s a significant responsibility which comes with a ‘higher purpose’ to make choices which produce quality buildings that people will enjoy, while also ensuring their safety and the safety of workers during construction.

You are also expected to meet tight deadlines and keep costs down, both of which are increasingly difficult in the current environment.

I am aware of the scope of choices you face every day, and the complexities which come with these, and I thank you for your integrity and commitment to quality.

I trust you take great pride in your work and experience much satisfaction from seeing the projects you’ve worked on being used by members of our community.

I’m pleased to see residential construction activity is growing faster in South Australia than any other state or territory in the nation – underlining our state’s collective efforts to address the need for housing.

I thank our members here this evening who do residential work for their contributions to this outcome.

While the construction industry faces a range of challenges, there are also exciting opportunities, and I look forward to watching our industry capitalise on these in the coming year.

I thank the Institute’s SA Chapter for running these awards and for its commitment to representing the local industry through tireless advocacy.

This evening’s winners will become finalists in the national Professional Excellence in Building awards, and I wish you luck in this competition.

Enjoy the ceremony and I wish you all the best as you ‘build’ a bright future for South Australia, one project at a time.
