On Wednesday morning, Her Excellency the Governor continued her official visit to the state’s northern regions, where, in the morning, she departed Port Augusta for Port Pirie.
Later, at Port Pirie, the Governor visited St Mark’s College where met student leaders and staff, and afterwards, addressed and took questions from the students.
Afterwards, at the Port Pirie Regional Council Chambers, the Governor met Mr Leon Stephens, His Worship the Mayor, and Mr Peter Ackland, Chief Executive Officer, Port Pirie Regional Council, before together visiting the McMahon Services Recycling Hub and Port Pirie Aerodrome, where they viewed the Military History Mural.
In the afternoon, at the Port Pirie Information Centre and Art Gallery, the Governor attended a community lunch with First Nations community members and key local industry members.
Afterwards, at the Port Pirie Regional Council Chambers, the Governor invested Mrs Pamela Ashman OAM with the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the community of Port Pirie, and to sport.
Later, at the John Pirie Secondary School, the Governor met with staff and students and toured the school’s Urumbula Garden, and, afterwards, visited the Nyrstar Port Pirie site, where she met with staff and was briefed on operations.
Afterwards, the Governor was escorted on a driving tour in Port Pirie, before returning to the Port Pirie Regional Council Chambers and departing for Port Augusta.
In the evening, the Governor returned to Port Augusta, where she hosted a dinner for Mr Mark Myers, Deputy Mayor, Port Augusta City Council, and Mr John Banks, Chief Executive Officer, Port Augusta City Council.
During the day, students from Thebarton Senior College’s New Arrival Program toured Government House.
