In the morning, Her Excellency the Governor continued her official visit to the state’s northern regions, where, at Port Augusta Secondary School, she met student leaders and staff, and addressed and took questions from the students.
Afterwards, at the Yarta Purtli Gallery in Port Augusta, the Governor, as patron and honorary life member of the Returned and Services League of Australia (RSL) SA/NT Branch, met Mr Ken Pollock, President, and Mr Paul Smith, Secretary, RSL Port Augusta Branch, and viewed the exhibition Tour of World War I.
Later, also at the Gallery, the Governor attended a morning tea with Aboriginal community leaders hosted by Her Worship the Mayor, Mrs Linley Shine, and Port Augusta City Council.
Later, at Caritas College, the Governor met student leaders and staff, and addressed and took questions from the students.
In the afternoon, again at the Yarta Purtli Gallery, the Governor attended a lunch at which, in addition to Mayor Shine, Mr Pollock and Mr Smith, the guests included The Honourable Geoff Brock MP, Minister for Veteran Affairs; Mr John Banks, Chief Executive Officer, Port Augusta City Council; Mr Ron Halls, Vice President, and Mr Bruce Henderson, Treasurer, RSL Port Augusta Branch; and, from the Fallen Soldiers Memorial Committee, Mr Arno and Mrs Heather Schwarze, and Mr David Miller.
Afterwards, the Governor addressed the gathering and unveiled a plaque at the Port Augusta Fallen Soldiers Memorial Rededication.
In the afternoon, the Governor returned to Adelaide.
In the evening, at Her Majesty’s Theatre, the Governor, as patron of the State Opera of South Australia, attended the opening night of Mozart’s ‘The Marriage of Figaro’, and afterwards, at the Ian and Pamela Wall Gallery, addressed guests at the post-show celebration.
On Thursday morning, at the Adelaide Convention Centre, the Governor’s Deputy, Dr James Muecke AM, officially opened the 2023 Adelaide White Ribbon Breakfast.
Afterwards, the Governor’s Deputy presided over a meeting of Executive Council.
