School and community groups are encouraged to participate in a guided tour through the public rooms of Government House.
Open Days
Open Days are held twice a year at Government House and are an opportunity for members of the public to explore the residence of the Governor of South Australia, tour through the gardens and meet the Governor.
The next Open Day will be held on Sunday, 13 October 2024.
Entry is free and registrations are not required.
Tours
School and community groups are encouraged to participate in a guided tour through the public rooms of Government House.
Visitors will learn about the Governor’s role and priorities and provide a unique insight into the constitutional, ceremonial and community engagement duties of the Governor.
A tour of Government House will be of particular interest to students, particularly those who are undertaking studies in civics and citizenship, as well as teachers of History, Society and Environment, Australian and International Politics and Legal Studies,
The free tours are led by volunteer guides and run for approximately one hour in length, with the opportunity to ask questions and answers throughout.
Volunteer guides are available to escort school groups of up to 30 people, while community groups are limited to 25 people per tour.
Tours are offered between Monday to Friday - dependent on House and Tour Guide availability.

Requests should include the school name / community group name, the year level, number of students/people, and preferred tour dates.
Please note this is a walking tour and will consist of standing for long periods. Sensible footwear is recommended.
All the rooms visited on the tour are wheelchair and 4 wheeled walker friendly.
Grounds
Government House and grounds may be made available, at the Governor’s discretion, for eligible organisations within the community.
All requests to use Government House and gardens for an event are considered against the Governor’s priority areas, availability, existing programming and budgetary considerations.
