Her Excellency discussing the accessibility upgrade Clinton

Accessibility upgrades

Work is underway on significant accessibility improvements at Government House Adelaide, ensuring the site can be fully enjoyed by all, including people with mobility challenges, wheelchair users, and the elderly.

Work is underway to ensure that Government House can be more readily accessed by those with mobility challenges.

The State Entrance - the main entrance to Government House – has had stairs since its construction in the 1850’s. Whilst a ramp at the Eastern entrance has been in place for some time, the front stairs have made access to the House through its principal entrance difficult or impossible for some people, including wheelchair users and the elderly.

The improvements will help visitors access and appreciate the State’s oldest public building and engage more fully in the community events that take place here.

Work is expected to be completed by mid-2025.
